ruminating

I've been thinking lots and blogging little. I've been thinking about my kids. Sometimes I get in a rut because I become overwhelmed by social injustices. I think it's something that most sensitive teachers experience. You have to work out a way to deal with the shit you watch your kids go through. To make sense of it, or simply to cope.

MH~ You'll probably find that time will harden you a bit; in itself, that's a little sad, but developing a tougher skin helps to deflect the sorrow and the anger about all the crap they have to go through.
Survival in this business means getting just a bit callous, but the best teachers I have met intentionally leave their heart open a little bit to the sadness too. They purposely meet their developing cynicism with hope.

I use to dream about the kids every night, reliving the horror of their life stories, and fighting their demons over and over. I seldom do this anymore, and that's a good thing.
